Nokia 9.3 PureView

Announced in 2018 the Nokia 9 PureView, implementing an revolutionary five-camera system powered by Light technology. It promised an image quality improvement, it promised depth control like never before, it promised ... A lot of hope.

The flagship Nokia never really set sail. Release was minimal, media coverage was minimal and it fell quietly into the background. But speculation has it that with a new Nokia 9 flagship phone Nokia is planning to return.

Nokia 9 Release Date and Price:

  • Launch expected in H2 2020

Nokia 9 update reports have come and gone over the last few years. First it was said that Nokia should make a fast update to the core hardware but that didn't happen. It's been reported more recently that the Nokia 9.3 could launch in the second half of 2020.

The most likely expected location will be IFA 2020, scheduled to be held in September 2020, but we don't have any idea if that trade show will be moving forward. But September is a good launch timeline.

What Will Be The New Nokia Flagship Called?

Nokia 9.2 or Nokia 9.3?

Many who follow Nokia's naming strategy will know that the company wants to release modified phones as dot increments, so for example, you end up with Nokia 7.2. The company however moved from the Nokia 8.1 to the Nokia 8.3 in 2020. At the time, Juho Sarvikas, HMD Global's Chief Marketing Officer, explained to us that this was to keep everything in line and move Nokia 8 straight to 5G.

There's nothing to say that HMD Global will use a different approach on other apps-beginning something as a.2 would be dating it now, so Nokia 9.3-as commonly suggested-looks like the tag.

Nokia 9 Design:

In reality, so far little has been said about the design. We know this gadget is supposed to come with a five-camera setup on the rear, so we would expect it to remain identical in physical nature, but reports say that this time around, the five-camera system will be completely different.

Early renders suggested a waterfall display, pushing bezels back and a slightly squared style, but, despite the recent Nokia apps, we are unlikely to do that. It's also mentioned that the camera array looks much more like the Nokia 7.2 and Nokia 8.3 models.

Beyond that, there's very little detail on what it's going to look like, but one model design took reports and created a product version that looks a lot like the Lumia 1020, which gives it a retro charm.

Nokia 9.3 Display:

  • Showing the Waterfall?
  • Punching camera in a hole?
  • 120Hz, right?

Information regarding the size and dimension of the Nokia 9.3 display are thin on the horizon, but there is a possibility that it will have a refresh rate of 120Hz, which we saw reported as "almost verified," indicating that a final decision is still to be taken by HMD Global. Supplier for the panel is expected to be LG.

Both a punch hole camera and an under display camera have been spoken about, with the latter being the more radical option. Despite the prototyping of cameras under view, we still have to see a production model using this technology. We've seen it suggested a number of times, but the authenticity of such statements is hard to determine.

Nokia 9.3 Hardware And Specs:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 + 5G

Nothing has ever been said about the hardware for the latest Nokia 9, but the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 is unlikely to be anything but we don't know if it's the older edition-the 865 + that is supposed to appear in the latter half of 2020, or the edition that's available now.

With Nokia already taking a move towards 5G with the Nokia 8.3, we will expect the Nokia 9.3 to be 5G too, using the Qualcomm X55 modem, just as other recent smartphones do.
There is very little detail, beyond that, about what to expect from the new phone.

Nokia 9.3 Cameras:

  • Normal camera setup
  • Main camera: 64 or 108MP
  • OIS on camera lead

Due to the Light system it used, the Nokia 9 PureView is noteworthy, with numerous sensors capturing information with an emphasis on image quality. Nokia is thought to abandon the Light system instead for a more traditional multi-camera system.

That's likely to result in a main camera high-megapixel, telephoto, wide-angle and maybe macro. We assume that Nokia looks at the performance of companies like Huawei, and will then pursue that course.

There's very little out there as for the details. It's said the 108-megapixel sensor from Samsung is in evaluation, as is the 64-megapixel sensor from Sony. It's suspected the main camera would have OIS. It was also announced that the Nokia 9.3 would be providing 8 K video capture at 30fps, although this feature is still under development.

With Nokia thinking of working again with Zeiss, we hope to get some exclusive Zeiss effects from the camera too.

Nokia 9.3 Software:

This is probably one of the most appealing aspects about the pure Android device Nokia 9.3 PureView-. There aren't many options for mere Android phones-there is n't much out there if you don't take the Pixel 4 XL. With Moto Edge+ this may be about to change and Nokia definitely plays in the pure Android space.

We would expect the phone to launch shortly after the Android 11 announcement, but it's hard to say if it will be ready for full release on a new platform. If we are waiting for the Pixel 5 to launch to debut the new program, this may not happen.
